On June 10, 2008 the awards of the ARS “Outstanding Student” Program were distributed to the winning students in one of the halls of the Yerevan State University. Established in 1993 by the ARS Armenia Regional Executive Board, this program recognizes students excelling in any one of the educational institutions of Armenia and awards them with honorariums.
This year, honorariums were received by 135 students from almost all the educational institutions in the Republic of Armenia (ROA). The award distribution ceremony was attended by ARS Central Executive Board member Karine Hovhannissian, ARS Armenia Regional Executive Board member Alvard Petrosian, ROA National Assembly and ARF Bureau member Vahan Hovhannissian, ROA National Assembly member Rouzan Arakelian, ROA Ministry of Education representative Hratch Tatevossian, Yerevan State University dean Aram Simonian and members of the ARS Yerevan Office. This year’s “Outstanding Student” program was sponsored by the ARS, Inc. Central Executive Board (55 students), ARS Western USA Regional Executive Board (20 students), ARS Armenia Regional Executive Board (5 students), ROA National Assembly members Vahan Hovhannissian (15 students) and Ashod Apoyian (10 students), Mr. Hagop Janbazian from Canada (20 students) and Mr. Shant Ghazarian from the Western USA (10 students).
The ARS “Outstanding Student” program is also implemented every year in Artsakh and Javakhk through the joint efforts of the local ARS entities and the ARS, Inc. Central Executive Board.
The Armenian Relief Society, Inc. has entities in 26 countries and will celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2010. For nearly 100 years, the ARS has served the Armenian people and others through its many respected humanitarian programs.
