The Armenian Relief Society participated in the United Nation’s 57th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, from March 4-15, 2013. CSW, a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is “the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women”. The theme of this year’s CSW was “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls”. Approximately six thousand women from all over the world registered to attend the CSW57 events.

On March 2, 2012, the ARS organized a high-level panel event with the Armenian Permanent Mission to the UN and His Excellency, Ambassador Garen Nazarian.

The Armenian Relief Society, Inc. International Office is looking for an Administrative Secretary to provide support to the Executive Director during office hours – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah paid a visit to one of the oldest societies in Jordan, the Armenian Relief Society, in Jebel Al Ashrafieh in Amman, Petra news agency reported.

The official event marking the 20th Anniversary of the ARS, Inc. Orphans Sponsorship Program, was held at the K.Sountougyan Hall in Yerevan on September 30, 2012.

During the Soviet regime, February 23 was marked as Army Day all around the Soviet Union. Following the independence of the Republics of Armenia and Nakorno Karabagh, the day is being marked as the Motherland Defender’s Day.

This year, the ARS Chapter of Artsakh decided to commemorate this day with the soldiers guarding the country’s borders.

The ARS “Amanor” Program is one of the Armenian Relief Society’s all-Armenian projects implemented annually. It provides Yuletide and Christmas presents to needy families and individuals through social and benevolent organizations active in our Diasporan and Homeland communities.

The ARS/Artsakh visited Govgasan with the purpose of assisting the 16 Syrian–Armenian families currently residing there.

Since January 7, 2013, the ARS Inc., the global Armenian women’s organization, has a new Executive Director.  Lala Demirdjian-Attarian is a native of Lebanon who received her primary education in Athens and secondary education in Nicosia’s Melkonian Educational Institute. After receiving her BA degree in Elementary Education from Haigazian University, in Beirut, she pursued her higher degree in Comparative and International Education at the University of Oxford.
